  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • Sea salt flakes for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  3. Gradually add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.
  4. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  5. In a saucepan over low heat, melt sweetened condensed milk with remaining brown sugar until smooth (about 5 minutes).
  6. Pour caramel over the base layer and crumble the remaining dough on top. Sprinkle generously with sea salt.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.
