Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Active dry yeast
  • Warm water
  • Fresh garlic cloves
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the risen dough, divide into small pieces, roll each into a 6-inch rope, and tie into knots.
  6. Place knots on parchment-lined baking sheets, brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
