Scale
1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1 large egg (or 1 flax egg)
Salt and pepper to taste
Lettuce, tomato slices, avocado slices
Instructions
Gather all ingredients on your counter for an organized cooking session.
Mash half of the drained black beans in a bowl until chunky.
In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Combine mashed beans, sautéed onions and garlic, breadcrumbs, spices, salt, pepper, and egg (or flax egg) in a large bowl. Mix well with your hands until combined.
Form the mixture into burger patties (about ¼ cup each) and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
Heat more olive oil in the skillet over medium heat and cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
Assemble your burgers on toasted buns with desired toppings and serve immediately.
