  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg (or 1 flax egg)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce, tomato slices, avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients on your counter for an organized cooking session.
  2. Mash half of the drained black beans in a bowl until chunky.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Combine mashed beans, sautéed onions and garlic, breadcrumbs, spices, salt, pepper, and egg (or flax egg) in a large bowl. Mix well with your hands until combined.
  5. Form the mixture into burger patties (about ¼ cup each) and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
  6. Heat more olive oil in the skillet over medium heat and cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Assemble your burgers on toasted buns with desired toppings and serve immediately.
