  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  4. Slowly incorporate hot water into the batter; it will be thin but will yield a moist cake.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Frost as desired.
