Crispy smash burgers are a delightful combination of juicy beef and perfectly seared, crispy edges. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for any gathering and promises to impress everyone at the table!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese (or your choice)
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 6 dill pickles, sliced
  • Ketchup and mustard to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot.
  2. Form the ground beef into four equal balls (about 4 ounces each) without overworking the meat.
  3. Place each ball onto the hot surface and use a spatula to smash them down firmly.
  4. Season with salt and pepper while cooking. Once browned on one side (about 3 minutes), place a slice of cheese on top to melt.
  5. Toast the buns cut-side down on the grill or skillet until golden brown (about 1 minute).
  6. Assemble your burgers by layering lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and the cheesy patty between the toasted buns.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey or a plant-based option for a lighter version.

  •  Experiment with spices like smoked paprika or garlic powder to enhance flavor.
  •  Let cooked patties rest briefly before serving to retain juiciness.
